Spring 2018
Dear Friends & Supporters,
OnenessButoh is a community-based, grassroots collective of dancers. We are entering our 6th season and recently celebrated our 5th Anniversary with a gratitude party for our friends, family and supporters. We could not have survived 5 long years without those who have volunteered, donated and attended our performances.
Though our goal is to become a self-sustained, independent arts collective, as you may know, ticket sales alone don’t cover the cost of mounting a full-fledged production. In addition to the rental of rehearsal and performance space, are the costs of a lighting designer, marketing, costumes, make-up and insurance. These production costs almost always take precedence over everything else, sadly, including artists’ stipends.
This year, I've decided to return to Ode to Minamata, a performance project I conceived in 2013. My goal is to premiere Ode to Minamata toward the end of this year. I'm extremely honored and proud to announce that this production will be a collaboration with composer/musician Kallan Nishimoto. Kallan will be composing an original music score for his taiko group, Rain Ensemble. They'll be performing live alongside OnenessButoh. As a teaser, you can view a short 12-minute work-in-progress clip of Ode to Minamata by clicking on the Video tab above.
We're also excited to announce the sale of our original OnenessButoh t-shirts. We're grateful to Eiko and Nao of Harvest Land Designs in Berkeley for patiently working with us to create a design that we love. The sale of our t-shirts will go toward our production expenses. If you wish to support our next production, Ode to Minamata, please see donation information below. As a OnenessButoh donor, we’ll acknowledge you in our program and give you seating priority at our premiere. Though your recognition as a donor is small, the gratitude we have for you is huge!
gratefully,
Judith Kajiwara, Artistic Director
