OnenessButoh is a collective of community-based performing artists dedicated to using the contemporary Japanese dance form of Butoh to:

 

1)  advance the awareness of Butoh as a uniquely enriching and innovative audience-accessible dance form;

 

2)  develop and sustain a skilled core of artists who collectively create and perform ensemble and solo pieces that awaken and deepen the consciousness of our audiences.

 

Our artistic goal is to use the power and uniqueness of Butoh to tell compelling stories of emotional depth and universality, evoking shared truths that cross cultural and social barriers.

 

We believe our storytelling erases barriers of social isolation, misunderstanding and judgment of ourselves and others by gently opening and stretching our hearts and minds.

 

Though we always honor the traumatic post-war Japanese origins of Butoh, we update and redefine Butoh as a humanistic voice that is gripping and relevant to today's challenging, rapidly changing world.

 

We use Butoh workshops and performances to encourage inner reflection, to promote emotional healing; and to collectively inspire an awakening consciousness among audiences of all backgrounds and from all communities.
